I needed help on offense this year and was willing to sell high on Hurt to bet that DJ bounces back in the leadoff spot this year. On to Cubs to confirm.

Cubs agree. Happy to add a pitcher who will hopefully help me in future seasons. Trading in division is always wary for me, and a draft pick at that but it felt like a good value.

This trade is currently on hold due to the buydown rule. No league vote required. 

D.J. LeMahieu was previously bought down the maximum 50% from his original contract and cannot be bought down anymore. Article VIII of the Constitution will be amended to be more explicit about this ruling as the current wording is leaving room for interpretation that does not align with our historical execution of the rule.

Both sides are free to restructure this deal at any time.
