Reds Trades:
Shogo Akiyama, OF - $7,000,000 in 21 & $8,000,000 in 22, FA in 23
Colorado Trades:
Pavin Smith, OF/CI - TC in 21, 22, 23 with the following 3 years being arbitration. FA in 2026
Ultimately I believe that Smith and Akiyama are very similar players. Arizona keeps insisting that Smith’s power is developing but, I’ll believe that when I see it. What makes this deal for me is dumping the salary now and getting a more long term player. Gotta hope that Smith gets into the rotation or the NL adds the DH for it to work right now but, I’ll be in the market for a better OF now that I have my bench bat. I was also worried that Akiyama gets the 4th OF role if the NL doesn’t get the DH as Senzel will clearly be starting alongside Castelleanos and Winker.
