Padres Trade:
SP Jacob deGrom - $16.75M $15.25M Player Option $16.25M Club Option - Previously bought down contract SP Kyle Gibson - $3.5M FA SP Luke Weaver $2.4M Arb3 FA SP MacKenzie Gore - Standard MiLB
Braves Trade:
SP Jose Berrios - $10M $15M $17M $18M $18M $24M Player Option $24M SP Yu Darvish - $19M $18M FA
The heat is on in the NL West and we're cranking up the temperature here. I can't say I was surprised by deGrom's recent setback, but I was devastated nonetheless, as he was the obvious linchpin of my rotation. The optimist in me thinks he'll be back to putting up inhuman stats in no time, yet the realist in me knew I needed a new #1. My starting depth takes yet another blow here, considering these are all starters I feel could make playoff impacts, but Jose Berrios gives me that ultra dependable arm I desperately need from the get-go while Yu Darvish provides additional upside to my rotation. Kind of hate to deal MacKenzie Gore now that he looks like he's back on track, but that's the price you pay to bring in a new SP1.
Always great to chop it up with Matt; over to him and the Braves for confirmation.

Braves Accept!
Short version: DeGrom either comes back and pitches awesome and opts out, which I will make further maneuvers to retain if needed, or he doesn't opt out (he will, lol) and I have him as is. The deal's really about Gore who I believe we are finally seeing blossom and could be equal to (or better?!) Berrios as soon as next (this? Nah probably not) year. Also, money-saving is good.
Good chats back and forth with Kevaghn!
