This thread will be a catch all for adjustments that we make to league settings to accomodate lockout related rescheduled games and other issues.
1.) Game Schedule
Barring any futher changes to the MLB schedule, the following adjustments will be made to the 2022 FMode Game Schedule:
- Week 16 interleague play is cancelled to accomodate the later opening day. We will play 20 games instead of 21 in the regular season.
- Week 1 will consist of the short opening week and the following full week of games.
- Weeks 14 and 15 will both be played during the same period consisting of the week before the AS break and the AS break week. Every team will play two games simultaneously. This is a one time thing, not something we will do on the regular in this league. Not setting a precedent here.
- Playoffs remain unchanged and will end one full week prior to the end of the MLB regular season to preserve the integrity of the championship round.
2.) Offseason activities
- The offseason always extends to midnight on the eve of opening day. If opening day moves the deadline moves. That will always apply. This applies to things like the salary rollover deadline, free player releases, single season buyouts of multi season contracts and anything else that is true of the offseason.
3.) Arbitration salaries
- Rumor is that arbitration offers will go out in the next couple of weeks but that any players that don't settle will get hearings during the season. We will continue to hold estimated values on players that are pending if they extend into the season. When actual values are decided if any of them cause a cap overage there will be a 7 day grace period for the manager to resolve the cap issue and they will have the option of releasing the player for no cap hit since they didn't have the data to decide during the offseason. They will not be able to make any transactions that increase their total payroll until the cap issue is resolved.
Going forward...
- In future seasons we will only play the interleague rivalry week if we are able to also have a combined week at the AS break. If the MLB schedule doesn't allow for it, we won't have rivalry week. Double matchups is only an option because of the lockout. Future seasons may well be 20 games instead of 21 at the commissioner's discretion. Rivalry week is an interleague week that doesn't affect our round robin balanced schedule, so going forward it will be strictly optional.
- MLB raised the minium salary to $700k. Next offseason I will be proposing adjustments to our finacial structure that keep us in line with the real life minimum and any other items of interest that come out of this new CBA. It will be a league vote and it will likely include a cap adjustment to accomodate the additional money. For now just know that there are no financial changes coming for this season.
