With the sheer amount of deals so far, I can't give my analysis of all of them right now BUT i can provide regular updates on my thoughts of them. Now these are only one man's opinion and I am not bashing anyone and hope that everyone understands the amount of respect i have for all of you here. My analysis are just what i think of the deals. I don't know your salary cap situation and if you're rebuilding or whatnot. I'm just judging these trades based on what i see. Hope you all enjoy it.
Tampa Bay sends:
Niko Hulsizer, OF (TB) - 21: $0.5M (MiLB)
Seth Johnson, P (TB) - Prospect
Cincinnati sends:
Tyler Mahle, P (CIN) - 21: $2M, 22-23: Arb
Jonathan India, CI (CIN) - 21: $0.5M (MiLB)
Winner - Tampa - I like Mahle and India more than Niko and Seth, but I’ll admit that I don’t know much about Johnson to say who definitely won but if I had my druthers, I take Mahle and India here in a vacuum.
The Mariners send:
Kyle Seager, CI (18,000,000 in 21, 15M option in 22)
Dylan Moore, MI (750,000 Protected)
Gerson Bautista, RP (600,000 Protected)
Brandon Williamson, SP (prospect)
The Rockies send:
Ryan McMahan, MI (2,300,000 ARB)
Brendan Rodgers, MI (600,000 protected)
Colten Welker, CI (prospect)
Michael Toglia, CI (prospect)
Winner - Seattle - I love the move long-term here for Seattle with the talent they are bringing in. Now if Colorado would learn to appreciate their rookies and actually play them...i digress. Short-term Colorado is getting a nice versatile player in Moore and hoping for a Seager bounceback.
Colorado trades
Zac Veen OF COL (prospect)
Ryan Vilade IF/OF COL (prospect)
Ryan Rolison SP (prospect)
Chris McMahon SP COL (prospect)
Pittsburgh trades
Cole Tucker IF/OF PIT 21: $750K, 22: ARB1, 23: ARB2, 24: ARB3
Steven Brault SP PIT 21: $2M, 22: ARB2, 23: ARB3
Nick Gonzales 2B PIT (prospect)
Steven Jennings P PIT 21: $500K
Winner - Even - I like this Veen kid alot but I also like Gonzales who has a great hit-tool but could develop power. Colorado is building for a team to contend now giving up alot of young talent but there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s admirable.
Mariners send:
Jonathan Clase (prospect)
Tigers Send:
Joe Jiminez, RP (1,350,000 ARB)
Winner - Seattle - Classic closer for prospect swap could help both teams. Editor’s note - this trade was written prior to Jiminez baing non-tendered but he could turn up elsewhere giving Holds.
Tampa Bay sends:
Ryan Yarbrough, SP (TB) - 21: $0.75M, 22-24: Arb
Seattle sends:
Taylor Trammell, OF (SEA) - Prospect
Winner - Even - A swap of a top 100 prospect for a solid young pitcher helps both teams with their goals. I’m not the biggest Trammell fan (sorry, Bailey) but then again I didn’t like Lindor coming up so even though I look it, I’m not perfect.
Pirates Get:
OF Daniel Cabrera - standard MiLB
Tigers Get:
CI Alexander Mojica - standard MiLB
Winner - me - I heard of these two jabronis but never knew much about them until now and I like what I read about both of them.
Colorado trades
Nolan Arenado 3B COL 21: $35M, 22: $35M, 23: $35M, 24: $35M, 25: $32, 26: $27M
NYMets trade
Jacob DeGrom SP NYM 21: $33.5M, 22: $33.5M, 23: $30.5M, 24: $32.5M
Winner - Slightly the Rockies IF Arenado gets traded. If not, then very even. Classic needs-based expensive player deal that helps both squads immensely.
The Mariners send:
Joey Gerber, RP (500,000 protected)
Anthony Misiewicz, RP (600,000 protected)
Yohan Ramirez, RP (600,000 protected)
Shed Long Jr, MI (600,000 protected)
Jake Fraley, OF (600,000 protected)
Mets send:
JD Davis, CI (2,300,000 ARB)
Amed Rosario, MI (2,200,000 ARB)
Winner - Mets - Bringing in a lot of nice young talent for two good players. Rosario would need to bounce back and Davis would have to continue to develop. I’m high on the Misiewicz and Yohan in this deal - great ratios and potential for Saves and Hold.
Tampa Bay sends:
