As you may remember from last year it was a bit of a scramble to get the schedule correct before the start of the season and as a result a couple of divisions had both rounds of divisional games back to back. As promised, I have fixed the schedule for 2022 so that it is more balanced. Here's what you'll find:
Weeks 1-15 are round robin for the AL and NL which gets 1 full round of divisional play and all of the interdivisional games. The divisional games are randomly interspersed in the round robin format. I tried to stack them at the beginning of the season, but the fact that there are three divisions in each league makes this impossible. I used an online schedule creator to randomly generate the round robin for each league. As always, there is one interleague game every week. This was randomly generated by the round robin format. Each year I will take one full week of the NL schedule and rotate it from week 1 to week 15. This will change the interleague matchups to give us variety.
Week 16 is interleague rivalry play. Wherever possible I have matched natural rivals. This covered a surprisingly large number of games. There are some random ones out West because of both Texas teams being in the AL...but for the most part it's subway or freeway series that can develop as rivalries over time. It's not my intention to change these games each year...these will remain fixed.
Weeks 17-22 are the second round of divisional play. The intent here is to settle division races at the end of the season with a full round of divisional play. This format results in 3 interleague games each week which will be rotated by changing the divisional matchup schedule each offseason.
You can find the schedule as a tab toward the end of the league spreadsheet.
