• RHP Craig Stammen — $1,000,000 FA
• CI/MI Ronald Torreyes — $500,000 FA

to the Padres for:

• RHP Yusmeiro Petit — $1,600,000 FA
• MI Jose Iglesias — $3,500,000 FA

I'll be happy with taking away a 20+ holds guy from a potential competitor in the postseason, and Iglesias gives me another matchup-dependent option to toy with as my MI2. Stammen is not valuable to me in his new role as an opener and he, Torreyes and Lester are largely included as salary negators. Romy Gonzalez is having a monster year in the White Sox system, but profiles as a utility infielder unless he's shipped elsewhere, and Pilkington tops out as a back-of-the-rotation arm. Padres confirm. We will be releasing the trio of veterans in a corresponding move.

Losing Petit does impact my near-term bullpen and Iglesias has been functioning as quality depth nearly all year, but both are 1-year assets, so I'm happy to pull in a couple of prospects that I like here. Romy Gonzalez had, as mentioned, a monster year in AA and is now off to a fast start in AAA while Konnor Pilkington has the pitch characteristics to hopefully thrive in Cleveland. Best of luck to Jason and the White Sox in the playoffs...but not too much luck
