I approve.
It's a light return considering it's DeGrom, but it comes with outlaying $90MM+ over 3 years which makes up for the light return.

Approve.
Like has been mentioned, degrom is probably a top 5 talent in baseball but has a contract that isn’t easily movable in a fantasy format, Mike gets a guy he hopes he can replace degrom with in Thor, who has all of the makings of being a frontline guy when healthy and you would expect not to make as much as degrom once signed, and he gets some solid scratch offs to get lucky with, Cody takes on said contract and crosses his fingers (as do I) that degrom remains beastly and healthy for the duration, only possible negative is if degrom gets a lifetime extension to be a Met that pays him later when you’d expect some type of drop off...not the best return, but knowing a bit of what was going on behind the scenes with this, as I was also hoping to reacquire degrom, this wasn’t an intentional fleecing...just a deal where after the fact, you feel like you were willing to bid more than what was accepted, it happens...2 guys made a deal for what they were willing to give and receive...

Approved.
Definitely a light return for a top 5 talent, but with contracts and the risk that a highly paid pitchers always presents, you just never know. While I would not have made this trade at all, I don’t think there was any wrong-doing or collusion here. So I approve.

Approve. Agree with what others have said about it being a light return, but I know how discussions proceeded behind the scenes and both managers know what they're doing. Plus it's hard to move players with contracts that large. Hope it works out for both parties.

With Washington's vote it is no longer possible for the trade to be veto'd. It will be processed when the original 24 hours on the trade itself expires.
For the record, I vote to approve as well. My thinking is pretty similar to the consensus.
I will leave this thread open so that everyone who has not yet voted can voice their opinion if they so choose. Voting is no longer required. Thank you for the prompt response. Hopefully this is the last one of these we'll do, but it's here if we need it.

Not tryna to ruffle any feathers but I wish DeGrom at least was shopped. It seems like salary relief, no? It also seems like everyone agrees the package is light for DeGrom and the only risk LAD takes is the money. It makes no sense for anyone not to have kicked the tires for DeGrom at this price.

I appreciate all these comments. I do understand that I could have possibly done better, and it would have been more transparent, if I had shopped deGrom to the league. I apologize for not doing that. I did receive unsolicited offers for deGrom and contacted other players who are regular trade partners that I knew might be interested. His $33M contract for this year was an impediment to a trade and I scanned some of your rosters to see what big-money contracts I might have to take back and concluded I wasn’t interested in those players. In the end I had 2 offers I liked and one could certainly make a case that the offer I rejected was better on paper. But I was nervous about the post-hype prospects offered and, in the end, my decision came down to a bet on Syndegaard. I concluded I could not win this year, that I needed to strip my team of high-payroll guys and I wanted to rearrange my pitching staff because I am nervous about the “sticky fingers” issue. I wonder if deGrom will return $90M in value over the next 3 years. I traded a few valued pitching prospects in another deal because of my anxiety about their health. This is all about my changing views on pitcher risk. Syndegaard is certainly emblematic of that. We’ll see how this trade works out. Thank all of you for your thoughtful comments and Jared for wisely setting up this trade review process.

For posterity, it's a veto from me.
Jacob deGrom was never publicly made available, the return for him was incredibly light, and the return hardly aligned with "building for the future" when the best piece in the package was a currently shut-down SP on a 1-year deal who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019. He was given away for a package that doesn't make sense and (presumably) could have easily been topped.
The bottom line of my admittedly biased opinion is that if I had made this deal with my brother (Aaron/the Orioles), I'm sure it would have looked super fishy and that is why I would exercise my veto.

I vote to approve. I've dealt with both of these gentlemen and I believe that they each got pieces that they wanted in this deal and that is why they made this trade.
